In Canada, the Ministry of Children and Family Development was established. Its goal is to support all children in Canada and ensure that they live in safe, healthy and caring families, with a strong connection to their community and respect for culture. The Ministry also helps in the process of protecting children’s rights at the court stage.
Pursuant to applicable law, this ministry has the competences which, in the event of a threat to the safety of a child, have the right to delegate an agency to investigate the case and take appropriate steps to protect the life, health and freedom of the minor. Appropriate actions are implemented and taken by social workers. They involve contact with the guardian or parent, and they also have the right to visit the home where the child is staying to examine the family situation, with particular emphasis on the child’s safety. Such actions are aimed at eliminating pathological behavior occurring in Canadian society.
